Dr. Andrea Bieler

Dr. Andrea Bieler is a German-Swiss theologian currently serving as Professor of Practical Theology at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Basel (since 2017), where she also holds a position as dean and member of the senate. Her work focuses on the interface between practical and intercultural theologies and explores themes such as migration and religion, vulnerability, memory and trauma, and the dynamics of multi-ethnic Christian congregations. She was the principal investigator of the project Conviviality in Motion: Exploring Practices and Theologies of Multiethnic Christian Congregations in Europe (2020–2024), funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. Before joining Basel, she taught at the Kirchliche Hochschule Wuppertal (2012–2016) and at the Pacific School of Religion/Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California (2000–2012).
