Dr. Devaka Premawardhana is Winship Distinguished Research Associate Professor of Religion at Emory University in Atlanta (USA). He previously taught at Colorado College and held visiting teaching positions in universities and seminaries in Brazil, Mozambique, and Sri Lanka. He received his PhD from Harvard University primarily under the mentorship of Michael Jackson, Jacob Olupona, and Harvey Cox. His first book, Faith in Flux: Pentecostalism and Mobility in Rural Mozambique (2018), received a best book award from the Society for Pentecostal Studies. He also co-edited Between Life and Thought: Existential Anthropology and the Study of Religion (2024) and has published chapters and articles on a variety of topics, mostly related to African religious pluralism. Premawardhana serves as deputy editor of the Journal of Religion in Africa and is co-editor of the World Christianity series of the Pennsylvania State University Press.
